Understanding Pettis County Releases
“Released” answers a facility-specific question. It means a person left a particular custodial setting. At Pettis County Jail, the exit may be a community release after bond, a judge’s order, dismissal, time served, or another lawful basis. It may instead be a transfer. A person moved to the Missouri Department of Corrections, another county, the U.S. Marshals Service, federal custody, or ICE has left Pettis custody without becoming free in the community.

A dismissal in one cause does not cancel another hold. Likewise, a time-served judgment can coexist with a detainer. The original jail record must be paired with the court or receiving-agency record when more than one authority is involved.
Pettis Release Record Fields
A roster answers whether someone appears in custody at a moment in time. A release record answers when and why a person left a specific facility. Pettis County did not publish a verified online roster or release feed during the official-site review, so the full record must be requested from the agency that maintains it.

A booking sheet may stop at intake data. The later release event may sit in a custody log or jail-management record. Request both. An undefined request for an “inmate record” can miss the exit fields needed to tell a community release from a transfer.
Request Pettis County Release Records

The county’s Joint Communications records page directs a person to the administrative or records division of the agency responsible for the record. No dedicated sheriff web form, set jail-record fee, photo fee, or records-office schedule was verified.
- Identify the full legal name, date of birth if known, booking or arrest date range, and approximate release date.
- Include the Pettis cause number, booking number, or DOC number when one is available.
- Ask separately for the booking sheet, actual release event, release date and time, basis, destination, and booking photograph if open.
- Request electronic delivery and an estimate before costs are incurred.
- If material is withheld, ask for the legal basis and any segregable open portion in writing.
Missouri section 610.023 requires action as soon as possible and no later than the end of the third business day. It does not guarantee final production by that deadline. Section 610.024 requires separation of open material from exempt material. Section 610.026 governs fees, including a ten-cent cap for qualifying paper copies and cost rules for staff time and other formats.

A public interface limitation is also not a retention rule. MODOC’s historical dataset reaches back many years, but its availability does not guarantee that every underlying record is retained or public for the same span.

The same person may have an older state sentence, a later federal case, or active supervision elsewhere. A name match in another system does not answer what happened in the Pettis booking.

MSHP Pettis Release Information
The Missouri State Highway Patrol search is a narrow but useful Pettis County channel. It accepts county, name, and date inputs. A matching detail can include arrest information, charges, “Where Held,” and “Release Info.” A report that names Pettis County Jail and says “RELEASED” corroborates the end of that Patrol custody event.
Its boundaries are strict. The system covers Highway Patrol arrests only, labels its information preliminary and unofficial, and keeps reports online for five days. It is not a sheriff roster, a complete release list, or a permanent record. Save the report number and confirm the actual date, type, and destination with the jail or court.

The five-day warning is why a later Pettis release inquiry must return to the sheriff record and court docket.
MODOC Pettis Release Search
The MODOC Offender Web Search covers active offenders, including prisoners, probationers, and parolees. It accepts first and last names, including aliases, after CAPTCHA completion. It expressly excludes discharged offenders. An active field-supervision result can therefore show that a person left prison but remains under MODOC authority. No result cannot prove discharge.

Sentinel values can stand for life, indeterminate or interstate status, or a field assessment. Those values must not be converted into ordinary calendar dates. Sedalia Police has a specific evidence and property-return process. Evidence must be released by the prosecutor, and pickup is arranged with the SPD Property Unit at 660-827-7823 extension 1225 during posted weekday hours. This route applies to SPD evidence or property. It should not be presented as the process for personal property held by Pettis County Jail.
Ask which agency took and now controls the item. An SPD evidence receipt belongs with the police process. Jail-stored personal property belongs with the Sheriff’s Office. Court authority may be needed before police evidence can be returned. Keeping those sources separate avoids sending a release inquiry to an office that does not own the record or property.
Note: Release from custody does not itself authorize the return of evidence that remains tied to an active case.

Can a missing name confirm release? No. Pettis has no verified public roster, and MODOC intentionally excludes discharged offenders while allowing other exclusions. A transfer, spelling issue, lag, confidentiality rule, or technical failure can also cause an absence. Confirm the event with the agency that created it.
Pettis County Release Facility
Pettis County Jail is the only locally verified detention facility in the Facility Map. It is operated by the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office at 319 S. Lamine Avenue in Sedalia. Sedalia Police arrestees are commonly transported there, but police headquarters is not a separate detention facility.
No MODOC adult prison, federal prison, or ICE detention center was verified in Pettis County. District 29S is a community supervision office, not a jail. Nearby state prisons are not automatic destinations for Pettis cases because MODOC controls placement.
